story of wandiu-diu as a mermaid in buton



            Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife and they had two children. The first child was named WaTurungkoleo and son both named La Mbatambata.
 One day, waturungkoleo’s father went to sea to catch fish. The next day, he went to sea to check their net. At that time, he was very happy because he got a fish. And then the fish split and sprinkled with salt. When returning home, the fish were hung in the kitchen. When Wa Turungkoleo’s father went to the sea to catch fish, he gave a message to his wife. "Let no one took the fish or gave it to someone else, anyone who requests it." Said turungkoleo’s Father. "Who else would dare to pick it up, except our children". replied Waturungkoleo’s mother." although our children, don’t you give," said Waturungkoleo’s father taking their net then gone.
A few minutes later, Wa Turungkoleo’s father was leaving home. La Mbatambata was crying wanted to eat kawole (dried fish that has been cleaved) belonged to his father. His mother gave the fish cook, but La Mbatambata did not want it, he was crying hysterically. Seeing his son's behavior, his mother felt sorry. She also cut off the tail of the fish kawole and then the tail was burned because of his tears, she forgot the message of her husband. While La Mbatambata ate, her husband came. When he saw his son La Mbatambata ate kawole, the suspicion arises in children. He went in the kitchen to inspect the fish. It turns out, his suspicions true that the fish had been eaten by his son. Wa Turungkoleo’s father was angry to his wife. "Why did you give a fish to our children?" Asked Wa Turungkoleo’s father. " Our son was crying, he wanted to eat salted fish. So, I felt sorry for him and then I cut the fish kawole." Replied Wa Turungkoleo’s mother.
Hearing the answers to his wife, not his anger subsided, but more emotional. Unconscious, Wa Turungkoleo father took the wood and he beaten his wife until the timber is broken body of his wife. Wa Turungkoleo’s father was anger causes her body was battered until dripping blood through the nose and ears.
A few minutes later, Wa Turungkoleo’s father was regret about his actions that make His wife fainted. When she realized she summoned her two children, stroked his head and kissed the forehead of her two children and she said to her son. "I am going to leave you because your father is fond of fish kawole than you." She said sadly. Both her lap and cuddle. She said to his son who was named Wa Turungkoleo. "Love your brother, and guard him well!" Counsel the mother. She also told La Mbatambata." if La Mbatambata did not eat kawole, I would not have to suffer like this." Regret mother.
Before their mother left them. First she must euthanize her two children on the bed. Then their mother took the gloves and clothes. His mother drove off leaving her two children. Starting from the gate of his house, she was tearing the sheath along the way that she went through. After the sheath, she tore his clothes. This aims to provide cues if their children seek her later.
When she reached the shore, she opened amulet wrapped around his waist and she put the amulet on the stone right on the beach. Then their mother asked the god of the sea to transform his body became a fish. The gods heard her pray, the god was granted his request to transform itself into a fish. But before the gods do rituals, the god said that he would change the mother's body becomes Wandiu-diu. So she did not meet again to his son as his body has been turned into a fish completely. Hearing the terms spoken by the god, she agreed.
When the night, La Mbatambata felt thirst to feed, he was crying because he did not see his mother. La Mbatambata heard crying, his father told to Wa Turungkoleo to fetch water but La Mbatambata not stop crying. In the morning, Wa Turungkoleo packed to look their mother, while holding her brother La Mbatambata. When they went to look for her right outside the house, they saw their mother's torn sarong. A few minutes, they walked and they saw her torn clothes again.
            A few minutes later, they followed the scattered scraps of cloth gloves and clothes her mother, they arrived at the seaside coincided with his mother pleaded with the god of the sea. On top of the rock, not far from where they stood, Wa Turungkoleo see ajimat mother. Ajimat was taken by Wa Turungkoleo then she kept as memories her mother. At the shore, her two children crying wanted to meet with his mother. While the tip of the beach they saw many fishermen were tidying their net. They called their mother but she never reveals herself.
When the edge of a deserted beach, Wandiu-diu appeared on the shore and she was holding a large fish. She went ashore and sat down on coast the sea. She handed the fish to his son Wa Turungkoleo. Then she took La Mbatambata while Wa Turungkoleo instep was surprised because his mother had covered with scales. While the mother is breastfeeding La Mbatambata, she also shed tears, and then regretted his actions. "If you were not picky, we would not be split up, sorry, my son!" said Wandiu-diu.
            After Lambatambata suckle, Wandiu-diu asked to Wa Turungkoleo hold her brother and then Wandiu-diu gave a command to her two children to return home. Wa Turungkoleo and her brother did not want to part with Wandiu-diu. But she was persuaded to get them to go back to his house, "You go home, later in the morning you come to see me again recently. Please go home cooking your fish. Do not come with me because every minute of my body will be covered with scales that I would turn into a fish; Look at my leg has been scaled! ".
After hearing the words of his mother, then Wa Turungkoleo and her brother were afraid. They said goodbye to her mother. When Wa turungkoleo at the home, she remembered her mother's message, While she gave fish. The message was she should not told his father that the fish he brought was giving his mother and he must say that the fish is giving people who feel pity. When Wa Turungkoleo went to the home, she met his father and he asked "Where you got the fish, had you met your mother?" Asked their father "We given it by fishermen and we do not meet with our mother." Answer Wa Turungkoleo.   Their father also took the fish brought by her then she cook, once cooked, they ate together, but the father was only given a fish bone to their children.
Every day Wa Turungkoleo and Her brother went to the sea to see her mother.  After feeding, they went home, carrying fish. At one point, Wa Turungkoleo and her brother went again to the beach, they saw the body Wandiu-diu have scaly, flaky and not just in the chest to the head so that it was difficult to get to land. As usual Wandiu-diu was holding La Mbatambata feedings. After that, Wandiu-diu forbade her two children to come to the sea tomorrow because Wandiu-diu could not go ashore again because tomorrow she will turn into a fish completely. Therefore, today is the last day of their meeting. Afternoons, Wandiu-diu sent his son home. " you go home because I will leaving." Wandiu-diu was crying and then she dived to the seabed and she never appeared again.
Wa Turungkoleo was crying while she was holding her brother. When she arrived at home, she was scolded by his father because it was night. Turungkoleo Wa said, "We got back late for meeting with our mother, and today is the day for our last meeting. Our mother has been transformed into a fish Wandiu-diu. So, she could not go ashore again. Every day, two children try to get down to the beach. However, Wandiu-diu did not come again. They came back with sadness on their faces.
